Fans Stuck at Toronto’s New Rogers Stadium After Sunday Night Concert
The first concert at Toronto’s new Rogers Stadium on Sunday night left fans frustrated, with some waiting up to two hours to exit the venue, according to CP24.
With the stadium expected to draw 50,000 visitors this summer, attendees are calling for urgent improvements in crowd control. Shannon Spencer, who attended the Sunday show, reported that the crowd stalled at the exit as staff released people in small groups, directing them towards the nearest subway station.
With limited parking available, fans were encouraged to use free public transit. However, even with extra service, subway stations became overwhelmed. Spencer described packed platforms and long delays. Others took to social media to voice their frustrations about the long waits to exit and exhausting commutes involving delayed trains, buses, and repeatedly cancelled Ubers.
Autumn Halvorsen said it took her over an hour to leave the venue, followed by a 20-minute walk to find an Uber, as drivers avoided the congested area.
Local councillor James Pasternak, whose ward includes Downsview, confirmed he had received numerous complaints about the “surge of crowds” and noise from nearby residents. He plans to meet with Northcrest Developments and Live Nation Canada this week to discuss potential solutions. “We want this to be a teaching moment where we can address these problems,” he said.
