Officials explore joint ventures, medical training, and health innovation to strengthen bilateral public health and industry ties
CAIRO, Egypt (MNTV) — Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met with Switzerland’s Ambassador to Cairo, Andreas Baum, to discuss broadening cooperation in healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, according to a Health Ministry statement.
The meeting emphasized the longstanding partnership between the two nations and their shared commitment to enhancing public health initiatives, according to Daily News Egypt.
Discussions reviewed ongoing collaborations, including the medical waste management project and the National Blood Transfusion Services, which Switzerland has recognized as a sustainable and internationally certified model.
Talks also focused on joint strategies for managing health emergencies, communicable diseases, and expanding expertise in hospital administration and primary healthcare.
Both sides explored opportunities for professional and nursing training, pharmaceutical production, quality control, vaccine manufacturing, and the joint development of medical products.
Ambassador Baum extended an invitation to Minister Abdel Ghaffar to attend the Swiss–Egyptian Economic Forum in Cairo on January 26, 2026, aimed at strengthening economic and investment ties, particularly in health technology and innovation.
Baum noted that Egypt’s Ministry of Health is a key Swiss partner, highlighting that over 80 percent of Swiss exports to Egypt are chemical and pharmaceutical products.
He also pointed to Swiss development cooperation and private-sector engagement in supporting Egypt’s Vision 2030.
The ambassador acknowledged that bilateral efforts have been reinforced through the Joint Economic Committee, which held its first meeting in Switzerland in May 2025.
Abdel Ghaffar accepted the invitation to serve as a keynote speaker at the forum’s health session.
