Death toll mounts in Gaza as Israeli airstrikes kill dozens, including senior Hamas official
At least 30 more Palestinians killed in fresh Israeli attacks; UN says nearly 900 civilians have died near aid delivery points in past six weeks
GAZA, Palestine (MNTV) — Israeli airstrikes pounded the Gaza Strip again on Tuesday, killing at least 30 more Palestinians, including 25 in Gaza City, according to local medical sources.
The latest wave of bombardment comes just a day after Israeli attacks killed 78 people across the besieged enclave, pushing the death toll ever higher in one of the bloodiest phases of the war.
Among the latest victims is Mohammad Faraj al-Ghoul, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council and a prominent Hamas figure, who was killed in a targeted strike in Gaza City.
Hamas confirmed the assassination, saying Ghoul served as justice minister in the government of late leader Ismail Haniyeh from 2007 to 2012.
Heavy strikes continued across Gaza on Tuesday morning, targeting Gaza City, Jabalia in the north, and multiple areas in the central and southern parts of the territory. In the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City, four bodies were recovered after an airstrike hit a residential building.
Civilian casualties continue to mount. A woman was killed and several others injured when Israeli warplanes struck a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood.
Another airstrike on a house in the Shati refugee camp killed five civilians, with others reported missing. In Al-Rimal neighborhood, tents hosting displaced families were again hit, killing and wounding several, including children.
The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) expressed alarm over the growing toll on civilians.
Spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan revealed that at least 875 Palestinians have been killed in the last six weeks near aid distribution points. Of those, 674 were killed near areas associated with the US- and Israeli-backed GHF (Global Humanitarian Fund), while another 201 died along UN and NGO aid convoy routes.
As airstrikes escalate, the Israeli military has issued urgent evacuation orders for residents of several neighborhoods in Gaza City and Jabalia, sparking fears of another mass displacement in an already devastated territory.
Violence is also spilling beyond Gaza’s borders. Israeli jets struck Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, reportedly killing at least 12 people, and also launched attacks on Syria’s southern Suwayda province.
Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank, at least 35 Palestinians — including children — were detained in Israeli raids overnight, according to prisoners’ advocacy groups.
Israeli settlers set fire to Palestinian agricultural lands and vehicles in the village of Burqa in the West Bank, just hours after an interfaith gathering of church leaders and foreign diplomats in the Christian-majority town of Taybeh called for peace and an end to the escalating violence.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israel has now killed at least 58,400 Palestinians and wounded over 139,000 since October 2023.
