Damascus Opera House hosts ‘Sung Poems’ concert
National Arabic Music Orchestra revives classical Arabic poetry through modern compositions, celebrating Syria’s cultural and artistic heritage
DAMASCUS, Syria (MNTV) — The National Arabic Music Orchestra captivated audiences at the Damascus Opera House on Wednesday night with a concert titled “Sung Poems,” an event dedicated to the enduring tradition of Arabic poetry performed through music.
The 90-minute performance showcased a harmonious blend of classical verses and contemporary arrangements, interpreted by a new generation of Syrian vocalists.
The evening opened with “Atifa,” a renowned piece composed by Maestro Adnan Fathallah, who also directed the concert, Syrian Arab News Agency.
Speaking to SANA, Fathallah described the performance as a culmination of his vision to combine authenticity and innovation in Arabic music, emphasizing the timeless link between poetry and melody as a reflection of Syrian and Arab identity.
“The audience’s enthusiasm mirrors the deep cultural connection Syrians maintain with music and poetry,” Fathallah said.
The event was attended by Deputy Ministers of Culture Luna Rajab and Ahmed Al-Sawaf, along with prominent artists, intellectuals, and admirers of traditional Arabic music spanning multiple generations.
