China’s Kibing Group plans large-scale solar glass project in Algeria
Venture to include solar glass manufacturing plant and silica sand processing facility, creating 3,000 jobs
ALGIERS, Algeria (MNTV) — China’s Kibing Group, a leading global glass manufacturer, is in talks with Algeria’s Ministry of Energy to establish a major solar glass production complex as part of efforts to expand renewable energy infrastructure.
The planned “Algeria Solar Glass Project” will feature an integrated solar glass factory with an annual production capacity of 1.53 million tonnes, alongside a silica sand processing facility capable of producing 1.08 million tonnes per year, Algeria-based Dzair Tube Media Group reported.
Officials said the initiative is expected to generate 3,000 direct jobs while achieving a 90 percent localization rate.
Both sides have agreed to form joint working groups to study the project’s feasibility, financing mechanisms, and phased implementation.
The development follows Kibing’s regional expansion strategy. In July, Egypt’s State Information Service reported that the company intends to build a $685 million solar glass plant in the Sokhna Integrated Zone within the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
That project, spanning 800,000 square meters, is also planned in phases, with 80 percent of its output designated for export markets and an estimated 3,000 direct job opportunities.
The Algeria venture underscores China’s growing role in supporting renewable energy and industrial projects across North Africa, aligned with broader Belt and Road Initiative cooperation.
