Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his government would enforce the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Netanyahu
OTTAWA, Canada (MNTV) – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his government would enforce the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits Canada.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Carney was asked whether Canada would honor the ICC’s warrant and replied “Yes” when questioned if he would be ready to arrest Netanyahu.
The ICC issued arrest warrants in November 2024 for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
In December 2023, South Africa launched a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing it of breaching the 1948 Genocide Convention during its war on Gaza. The ICJ subsequently ordered Israel to stop its military operations, prevent genocide, and ensure humanitarian access to the enclave.
Canada recognized a Palestinian state on Sept. 21, ahead of the UN General Assembly, joining similar announcements by the U.K., Australia, and Portugal. France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, and Andorra followed soon after.
