Cable Car attracts visitors, boosting Jordan’s tourism sector
The attraction highlights Ajloun Governorate’s natural beauty, historic landmarks, and growing role in eco-tourism
AMMAN, Jordan (MNTV) — The Ajloun Cable Car has surpassed one million visitors since its launch, signaling a major milestone for Jordan’s tourism industry and enhancing the appeal of Ajloun Governorate as a destination for nature and cultural tourism.
The cable car, developed by the Jordanian Free and Development Zones Group (JFDZG), offers tourists panoramic aerial views of Ajloun’s lush forests, rolling hills, and historical sites.
According to Travel and Tour World, Sakher Ajlouni, Chairman of JFDZG, described the project as a key driver of tourism growth, providing visitors with a unique perspective on the region’s landscapes and heritage.
Ajloun is renowned for its verdant environment and historical landmarks, including the 12th-century Ajloun Castle, built to defend against Crusader invasions.
The cable car provides convenient access to these sites while offering a scenic ride across several kilometers, connecting visitors to the Ajloun Forest Reserve, the Jordan Valley, and distant parts of Jerash.
Since opening, the cable car has attracted both domestic and international tourists, becoming one of Jordan’s most successful tourism initiatives in recent years.
Its popularity has stimulated local economic activity, increasing demand for hotels, restaurants, and other tourism services.
The project has also encouraged further investment in regional infrastructure, with new accommodations, dining options, and attractions being developed to support rising visitor numbers.
This growth is expected to generate additional employment opportunities and sustain economic benefits for local communities.
Located within one of Jordan’s most scenic natural areas, the cable car promotes eco-tourism by reducing the environmental impact of conventional travel.
Visitors can combine the ride with hiking and nature walks in the Ajloun Forest Reserve, home to diverse wildlife including deer, foxes, and wild boar, as well as pine and oak forests.
Tourists can also explore Ajloun Castle, gaining insight into Jordan’s medieval history and the strategic significance of the region.
The combination of aerial sightseeing and cultural exploration offers a comprehensive experience of Ajloun’s heritage and natural environment.
The Ajloun Cable Car project represents a sustainable approach to tourism development while reinforcing Jordan’s growing reputation as a hub for adventure and eco-tourism.
Authorities plan to continue investing in similar initiatives to enhance the country’s tourism infrastructure and attract more visitors in the future.
