BAKU, Azerbaijan (MNTV) — Azerbaijani judoka Sudaba Agayeva captured the gold medal in the 70-kilogram category at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, defeating Khurshida Razzokberdieva of Uzbekistan in the final, Trend reported Friday.
Fellow Azerbaijani Aytaj Gardashkhanli claimed bronze in the same weight class, while Eljan Hajiyev (90 kg) also secured a bronze medal. Earlier, Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) had earned gold, bringing Azerbaijan’s total judo medals to two gold and two bronze.
In other competitions, Zelim Kotsoev (100 kg) advanced to the finals, while Gunel Hasanli (78 kg) and Ushangi Kokauri (+100 kg) were set to compete for bronze.
Azerbaijani athletes are also competing in swimming, boxing, table tennis, volleyball, and weightlifting. The women’s national table tennis team will face Egypt in the semifinals, while weightlifter Ravid Almammadov (79 kg) begins his campaign in the group stage.
Four Azerbaijani boxers — Nargiz Zeynalova, Aynur Mikayilova, Saidjamshid Jafarov, and Mahammadali Gasimzade — will fight in their final bouts on November 10.
Overall, 179 Azerbaijani athletes are competing across 20 sports at the Games, which feature 57 countries in 23 disciplines. Azerbaijan currently ranks sixth in the medal standings with 17 medals — two gold, three silver, and twelve bronze.
The Islamic Solidarity Games conclude November 21 in Riyadh.
