Algeria moves towards digitization with 5G Launch and Land Digitization
President Tebboune sets roadmap for modernizing telecom infrastructure and completing land census by end of 2025
ALGIERS, Algeria (MNTV) — Algeria is planning to launch 5G mobile services and a project to digitize all state-owned land assets.
These measures were central topics of discussion during the Council of Ministers meeting held on Monday, April 7, presided over by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reported TSA Algiers.
The step comes as part of the country’s broader vision to modernize infrastructure and stimulate economic development through digital innovation.
President Tebboune instructed the government to conduct a comprehensive and in-depth study on the deployment of 5G mobile telephony, ensuring that the rollout is technologically sound and financially viable.
The objective, he stressed, is to ensure the integration and efficiency of this next-generation mobile service to maximize its benefits for the national economic system while providing Algerian citizens with high-quality digital connectivity.
The project is expected to usher in new opportunities for innovation, economic competitiveness, and public service delivery, placing Algeria in line with global trends in mobile technology.
While the government has not yet announced a specific launch date or investment figures, the move is seen as a strategic step in Algeria’s digital roadmap.
This directive follows earlier discussions at the Government Council on March 19, where the 5G rollout was first examined.
The push for 5G aligns with Algeria’s ongoing efforts to upgrade its digital infrastructure and encourage investment in information and communications technology.
In parallel, President Tebboune also announced a firm deadline for the nationwide digitization of state land, setting the end of 2025 as the target for the completion of a comprehensive land census across all 58 provinces.
This national database will serve as a foundational reference for preparing the 2026 finance law and will play a crucial role in ensuring transparency, better land governance, and strategic economic planning.
The land digitization project is part of Algeria’s broader effort to digitally manage public assets, enhance fiscal oversight, and support sustainable development.
By compiling an accurate, centralized digital land registry, authorities aim to facilitate urban planning, real estate investment, and infrastructure development, while minimizing disputes and irregularities related to land ownership.
These initiatives reflect Algeria’s strategic shift toward a digital economy, combining technological innovation with institutional reform to boost efficiency and economic resilience.
As the country lays the groundwork for the future, the integration of advanced mobile technologies and digital governance systems stands at the heart of its development strategy.
