Algeria backs Rwanda’s education in AI and data science as ties deepen
Bilateral agreements signed during Kagame’s visit aim to expand cooperation in technology, trade, and diplomacy
ALGIERS, Algeria (MNTV) — Algeria has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Rwanda’s advancement in technology and education by hosting Rwandan students at its National School of Artificial Intelligence, as the two nations strengthen strategic ties across multiple sectors.
During an official visit to Algiers, Rwandan President Paul Kagame commended Algeria’s efforts in providing educational opportunities for Rwandan youth, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence and data science.
He noted that five Rwandan students are currently enrolled at the prestigious AI institution, which forms part of a broader initiative to build capacity and foster innovation across Africa.
President Kagame, speaking alongside Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, underscored the growing partnership between the two countries and highlighted Algeria’s role in advancing skills development for Rwanda’s future workforce.
“Our cooperation in education—especially in AI and data science—is an investment in a shared future,” Kagame said. “We are grateful for Algeria’s support, and we believe this partnership will further strengthen the ties between our nations.”
The visit also included high-level talks between the two leaders, focusing on intra-African trade, knowledge exchange, and post-conflict recovery strategies.
Both presidents emphasized the importance of African solidarity in navigating global uncertainties and reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative development.
To further institutionalize the partnership, Rwanda and Algeria signed 11 new bilateral agreements spanning sectors such as artificial intelligence, civil aviation, agriculture, higher education, and investment promotion.
In a significant diplomatic development, President Kagame announced Rwanda’s intention to open a diplomatic mission in Algeria.
The move aims to enhance bilateral economic engagement and support greater collaboration between the countries’ private sectors.
The visit marked a deepening of ties between Kigali and Algiers, with a focus on leveraging shared experiences and expertise to promote mutual growth and regional integration.
