Al-Farabi’s treatise on ideal state presented to Vietnamese readers
Embassy of Kazakhstan in Vietnam has launched the Vietnamese translation of Al-Farabi’s seminal political-philosophical work
HANOI, Vietnam (MNTV) – The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Vietnam has launched the Vietnamese translation of Al-Farabi’s seminal political-philosophical work, Treatise on the Need to Strive for an Excellent State.
According to DKN World, the event marked the 1155th birth anniversary of the medieval philosopher, recognized across the Muslim world and Central Asia as one of history’s most influential thinkers.
In his remarks, Kazakh Ambassador Kanat Tumysh underscored the contemporary relevance of Al-Farabi’s political philosophy and highlighted the importance of making the Treatise accessible to Vietnamese readers.
He praised the work’s contribution to global intellectual heritage, noting that Al-Farabi’s ideas on governance, justice and the virtuous state continue to inform modern debates on ethics and public leadership.
The Vietnamese edition of the treatise—published in a composite volume featuring the Vietnamese, Kazakh, English and original Arabic texts—has been translated by Professor Nguyen Văn Chien of Hanoi University.
The Ambassador, joined by the envoys of Türkiye and Azerbaijan, presented Professor Chiến with a gold medal from the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) in recognition of his role in advancing cultural exchange.
Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Mạnh Cưong described the translation as “valuable evidence of deepening academic and cultural cooperation” between the two countries.
He said Al-Farabi’s philosophy, now available to Vietnamese scholars and students in their own language, embodies “the harmony of heritage and modernity” that both Kazakhstan and Vietnam seek to promote.
