Trump’s approval drops to 33% in new poll before midterms
Washington Post-ABC poll finds two-thirds of Americans believe president is using his office to enrich himself, and three-quarters rate economy negatively
WASHINGTON (MNTV) – President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 33% ahead of November’s midterm elections, according to a new Washington Post-ABC poll that found broad public unease over his finances, economic record and commitment to democratic norms.
Two-thirds of respondents, 66%, including 34% of Republicans, said they believed Trump was using the presidency to enrich himself — a 12-point rise since September 2025.
Nearly half, 48%, said they were financially worse off than when he took office in January 2025, which the Post said was the highest such share for any president in its polling since 1986.
Three-quarters described the economy as “not so good” or “poor,” and voters trusted Democrats over Republicans to manage it by 37% to 28%.
Some 67% said Trump was not committed to protecting press freedom, amid a dispute over the barring of CNN, MS NOW and Politico from White House grounds that a federal judge has since blocked.
On elections, 61% said they did not believe he was committed to free and fair voting, up five points from October 2025.
The findings follow a Justice Department lawsuit against California over its refusal to hand over citizenship-status information on roughly 20,000 people federal officials claimed were noncitizens; the department did not explain how the list was compiled.
