2 killed, 5 injured in shooting at Seattle Center festival

SEATTLE (MNTV) — At least two people were killed and five others wounded, including a 2-year-old child, in a shooting at the Seattle Center in Washington state on Sunday, local broadcaster KOMO News reported.

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson said one suspect had been taken into custody.

A witness at the Bite of Seattle festival told KOMO News they heard seven or eight shots near the center’s fountain.

Emergency responders confirmed the two deaths and identified the injured as three women aged 39, 40, and 56, a 23-year-old man, and a 2-year-old boy.

The 56-year-old woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition, while the 39-year-old woman, the 23-year-old man, and the child were hospitalized in stable condition.

The 40-year-old woman had minor injuries and declined transport.

UW Medicine later told The Daily that all the patients it treated had gunshot wounds, with an adult woman in critical condition and undergoing surgery, and the child, the 23-year-old man, and the 39-year-old woman in satisfactory condition.

Seattle police said on X that officers were investigating a shooting involving multiple victims and urged the public to avoid the area.

Authorities did not immediately identify those killed or release details about the suspect. Footage circulating on social media appeared to show police removing a person from the area, though officials have not confirmed whether that was the suspect in custody.

The Seattle Center, near the city’s Space Needle, was hosting the annual Bite of Seattle festival over the weekend, drawing hundreds of local food vendors and live music. The investigation is ongoing.
