Indonesia suspends participation in Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ initiative
Indonesia has suspended discussions on the proposed “Board of Peace” initiative launched by US President Donald Trump
JAKARTA (MNTV) — Indonesia has suspended discussions on the proposed “Board of Peace” initiative launched by US President Donald Trump, citing escalating tensions in the Middle East, according to media reports Friday.
Foreign Minister Sugiono said the move was prompted by the latest developments in the region, the news outlet Middle East Monitor reported.
Sugiono said the worsening situation had reshaped the foreign policy priorities of countries involved in the initiative.
He noted that international attention has shifted toward the consequences of the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
The minister added that Jakarta plans to hold intensive consultations with partners in the Gulf region, which he said are directly affected by the continuing strikes and rising tensions.
Indonesia’s participation in the initiative has also drawn criticism at home from political and religious groups.
Critics argue that joining a council backed by the Trump administration could weaken Indonesia’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause.
In the same context, the Indonesian Ulema Council called for the country to withdraw completely from the initiative.
The council said the proposed body lacks credibility and effectiveness while military operations in the region continue.
Indonesia’s decision to suspend participation comes as regional tensions remain high and diplomatic discussions around the initiative face growing scrutiny.
