Iran retaliates with drone strike on Israel for its strikes in Iran
Around 100 Iranian drones intercepted by Israeli air defenses in early morning barrage
TEHRAN/TEL AVIV (MNTV) — In a direct military response to Israel’s unprecedented attack, Iran launched approximately 100 drones toward Israeli territory on the morning of June 13.
The drones, consisting of armed UAVs reportedly including Qods Mohajer‑10 long-range models, were intercepted by Israeli air defense systems, according to Brigadier General Effie Defrin, IDF spokesperson.
The drones were launched in retaliation to an extensive Israeli air strikes hours earlier, which involved nearly 200 aircraft striking some 100 sites across Iran, including military installations, missile facilities, and alleged nuclear technology hubs.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei condemned the initial strikes as a “vile and bloody crime,” and Iran claiming several top military officials and nuclear scientists were killed.
He warned of a severe retaliatory blow from Tehran, asserting that the revolution’s forces would ensure a prompt “harsh punishment” .
Israel’s military confirmed that air-defense batteries, likely including Iron Dome and Patriot systems, successfully intercepted the drone swarm before they penetrated Israel’s airspace.
Preliminary reports indicate minimal damage on the Israeli side, although residents in several regions were awoken by sirens and reports of aircraft intercepting drones.
The nature of the drone launch underscores a new level of confrontation—direct kinetic action between state actors rather than proxy engagements, raising alarms over further escalation.
International reactions ranged from urgent calls for de-escalation to concern about wider instability.
The U.K. Maritime Trade Operations unit issued warnings to vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, Arabian Gulf, and Gulf of Oman.
Meanwhile, Western nations including the U.S., Germany, France, and Italy urged both sides to seek diplomatic solutions.
The United States has denied any direct operational involvement in the strikes, and continued to offer defensive support and monitoring through CENTCOM.
Analysts say Iran’s direct drone strike marks a departure from its previous reliance on proxy forces and signals a willingness to engage in open military confrontation.
According to military analysts, this level of direct engagement could set a precedent, with future retaliations potentially expanding beyond drone exchanges and further destabilizing regional security .
The situation remains fluid, with both Tehran and Jerusalem indicating readiness for further action.
Regional diplomats are urging immediate restraint, warning that the conflict could spread rapidly across multiple fronts if not contained.
