Zelenskyy says over 2-hour talk with Trump could help ‘bring war closer to an end’
Ukrainian President said that his conversation with US President Donald Trump could help move the Russia-Ukraine war closer to a conclusion
KYIV, Ukraine (AA) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Saturday that his two-hour conversation with US President Donald Trump could help move the Russia-Ukraine war closer to a conclusion.
“Over two hours of a pointed conversation with the President of the United States that can really help bring this war closer to an end,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram. He said they discussed key issues including battlefield conditions, long-range capabilities, air defense, and diplomatic options.
Zelenskyy reiterated that “Russia must end the aggression it started and continues to deliberately prolong,” expressing optimism that Washington would sustain pressure on Moscow.
He also spoke with leaders from the UK, Germany, Italy, Finland, Norway, and Poland, as well as with EU officials and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, to share details of his discussion with Trump.
“The main priority now is to protect as many lives as possible, guarantee security for Ukraine, and strengthen all of us in Europe,” Zelenskyy said, noting that national security advisors will soon meet to coordinate next steps.
The talks followed Friday’s meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy at the White House, where the Ukrainian leader backed Trump’s call for Moscow and Kyiv to “stop where they are” and begin peace negotiations.
Zelenskyy described the meeting as “productive,” highlighting talks on air defense, weapons production, and possible exchanges involving Tomahawk missiles and Ukrainian-made drones.
Trump later wrote on Truth Social that both Kyiv and Moscow “want to end the war” and announced plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary to discuss a potential peace deal.
