Xi urges lasting Gaza ceasefire, backs Palestinians’ ‘legitimate national rights’
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and urged international community to intensify efforts to uphold legitimate rights of Palestinian people
ANKARA (AA) — Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and urged the international community to intensify efforts to uphold the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, state media reported Wednesday.
In a message to a UN meeting marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Xi said the Palestinian question remains central to the Middle East conflict and directly affects global fairness, justice and regional stability, according to Xinhua.
“As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate national rights,” Xi said.
He warned that the crisis in Gaza requires “more proactive steps” to prevent further escalation and ensure that violence does not return. Humanitarian conditions must be improved urgently, he added, stressing the need to ease the suffering of civilians.
Xi said post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza should follow the principle of “Palestinians governing Palestine,” respecting the will of the Palestinian people and addressing the legitimate concerns of regional countries.
Reaffirming that a two-state solution is the only viable path to lasting peace, Xi described the Palestinian issue as a test of the effectiveness of global governance. He urged nations to confront root causes, correct historical injustices and act with responsibility to uphold justice.
