Water Alert in Durham!
Durham Region in Ontario is urging residents to limit their water usage as the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and surrounding regions continue to experience extreme heat, with temperatures rising above 30°C.
In a statement released yesterday, the region announced mandatory water restrictions for residents and businesses in Beaverton, Cannington, Sunderland, Uxbridge, Port Perry, Orono, Blackstock, and Greenbank. All non-essential water use, such as washing driveways, decks, cars, and watering lawns, must stop immediately and will remain restricted until further notice.
“Water use restrictions are necessary due to the prolonged period without rain and increased demand during the extreme heat, which is putting a strain on our systems,” the region stated. “These restrictions are vital to maintain adequate water levels to handle emergencies, including fire protection.”
The statement also apologized for the inconvenience and thanked residents for their cooperation.
Bowmanville is under a similar water restriction due to maintenance at its water plant; however, that advisory is not related to the broader regional limits.
Some relief from the heat is expected across Durham and the surrounding areas later today.
