Uzbekistan, Russia to establish nuclear engineering school in Tashkent
Initiative to support Uzbekistan’s first nuclear power plant, develop skilled workforce
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (MNTV) — Uzbekistan’s state nuclear agency Uzatom and Russia’s Rosatom, the Russian state atomic energy corporation, have launched an engineering school to train specialists for the former’s emerging nuclear energy sector.
The “Advanced Engineering School” will be established at the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, a leading Russian institution focused on nuclear science and engineering.
The initiative was formalized through a trilateral agreement signed by Uzatom, Rosatom, and MEPhI.
According to a press statement by Uzatom, the school will serve as a platform for preparing engineers and technicians who will support the construction and operation of Uzbekistan’s first nuclear power plant.
The announcement followed a meeting in Tashkent between Uzatom Director Azim Akhmedkhadjaev and Rosatom’s Deputy Director General for Human Resources, Tatyana Terentyeva. The two discussed long-term workforce development plans tied to the nuclear project, including specialized training programs.
As reported by Daryo News, they also discussed the presentation of a strategic development roadmap for the Tashkent MEPhI branch for 2025–2026, focusing on academic and research priorities.
