Uzbekistan launches national AI model rooted in local culture and values
Uzbek government unveils plan to train 100,000 youth in AI as Tashkent seeks to blend tradition with digital transformation
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (MNTV) — Uzbekistan has announced plans to build its own national artificial intelligence (AI) model, aiming to merge cutting-edge technology with the country’s cultural and historical identity.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev unveiled the initiative during a ceremony marking Youth Day, calling the project a digital reflection of Uzbek values and heritage.
According to UzDaily, the president emphasized that nearly 100 AI-related projects are already underway across the country in critical sectors such as healthcare, banking, energy, and agriculture. The goal, he said, is not just technological advancement, but a distinctly Uzbek model of AI that reflects the nation’s traditions and aspirations.
Mirziyoyev described the upcoming AI model as more than a tool — framing it as a platform to inspire creative innovation while preserving cultural roots. “This must be a source of national pride,” he said, urging developers to fuse ancient heritage with modern digital capabilities.
As part of its broader digital strategy, Uzbekistan has partnered with the United Arab Emirates to roll out the One Million AI Leaders initiative. Under this program, 100,000 young Uzbeks will receive training on AI fundamentals by the end of 2025, using the UAE-backed AI Study platform.
Analysts say Uzbekistan’s approach sets it apart in the region by focusing on culturally embedded AI development, rather than simply importing foreign technologies. The government hopes these investments will boost homegrown innovation and ensure the country plays a more active role in the global digital economy.
By building local capacity and fostering AI literacy, Tashkent is positioning itself as an emerging player in Central Asia’s tech landscape — while reinforcing national identity in an increasingly globalized digital world.
