Uzbek snipers clinch top spot at elite international competition in China
National Guard team wins 8 medals and dominates extreme shooting challenges at Otkir Tigh-2025
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (MNTV) — In a major boost to Uzbekistan’s military reputation, a sniper team from the National Guard has taken first place at a high-profile international competition in Urumqi, China, outperforming elite units from around the world.
The Uzbek team showcased exceptional skill and precision, triumphing over 44 other teams representing 25 countries. According to the National Guard’s press service, their consistent performance across the toughest stages set them apart from the competition.
Independent outlet Uz Daily reported that the Uzbek contingent stood out during two of the most demanding challenges: the Comprehensive Shooting Drill and the Urban High-Altitude Shooting exercise. In the first, snipers engaged 24 targets from seven firing positions—some as far as 1,200 meters. In the latter, they hit six urban simulation targets at varying distances of 100 to 650 meters.
Beyond the team events, members of the National Guard also ranked among the top scorers in individual and extreme sniper shooting disciplines. In total, the team brought home 8 medals, 10 diplomas, and a host of valuable prizes, including the championship trophy for best overall operational, tactical, and technical training.
The tournament, which concluded on July 20, reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s rising stature in international military contests. More importantly, it highlighted the country’s ongoing investment in advanced combat readiness and specialized skills development.
