US warns against being dragged into “Netanyahu’s war”
Sen. Sanders urges focus on diplomacy over military escalation after Israeli strike on Iran
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — Senator Bernie Sanders cautioned that the United States must not be entangled in “another Netanyahu war” following Israel’s recent military strike against Iran. He criticized the unilateral nature of the strike and urged Washington to reinforce diplomatic efforts rather than military engagement.
In remarks on Friday, Sanders said: “These strikes directly contravened the express wishes of the United States, which was seeking a diplomatic resolution to long-standing tensions.” He noted that nuclear talks were due to begin on Sunday, but were pre-empted by the Israeli action. Sanders described the attack as “reckless and destabilizing,” warning it risked triggering a wider regional conflict.
Sanders went on to condemn Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership, stating that it had emboldened extremes and flouted international conventions. He also accused Netanyahu of using humanitarian suffering in Gaza as a war tactic. Sanders urged the U.S. and international community to act decisively to stave off further escalation and “bring the parties to the negotiating table.”
Sanders’s intervention comes amid growing discord between Washington and Jerusalem over the timing and potential repercussions of Israel’s strike on Iran’s nuclear and military sites. Analysts warn of the heightened risk of broader conflict in the region.
