Zelenskyy said he has agreed to meet with US President Donald Trump in the coming weeks, signaling a potential push for diplomatic progress before year’s end. The statement was made as international talks on the Ukraine conflict recently took place.
He shared the news via a Telegram post, writing, “We agreed to meet at the highest level, with President Trump, in the near future.” He emphasized urgency, stating, “A lot can be decided before the New Year.” The announcement follows a report from Ukraine’s Defense and Security Council head, Rustem Umerov, on his latest contacts with American officials.
This planned high-level discussion occurs in the wake of a significant diplomatic round. Representatives from both Ukraine and Russia participated in talks hosted by the United States on Dec. 22-23, focusing on a potential settlement for the ongoing war.
The direct meeting between the Ukrainian and American leaders is viewed as a critical step, potentially influencing the war’s trajectory.
