US may not attend Ukraine peace talks in Paris, President Trump says
U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that Washington’s participation in upcoming Ukraine peace talks in Paris is not guaranteed
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that Washington’s participation in upcoming Ukraine peace talks in Paris is not guaranteed and will depend on whether there is a realistic path toward an agreement.
“We’ll see whether or not we attend the meeting,” Trump told reporters. “We don’t want to waste a lot of time.”
The president said the United States would only send a delegation if there were serious prospects for ending Russia’s war in Ukraine, stressing his desire to see the conflict “settled” to save lives.
According to Axios, the talks — expected to take place Saturday in Paris — will involve national security advisers from Ukraine, Germany, France, and the U.K. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who also serves as Trump’s national security adviser, would likely lead any US delegation.
The potential talks follow meetings earlier this week between Ukrainian officials and a U.S. delegation led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and senior presidential adviser Jared Kushner.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described those discussions as “productive,” saying they focused on reconstruction efforts and possible revisions to a proposed peace framework.
Trump’s cautious stance signals a shift toward what his administration calls result-driven diplomacy, prioritizing concrete outcomes over symbolic participation.
