‘US can’t successfully mediate between Iran, Israel’
Mediator has to be neutral which US is not in this conflict, says retired Pakistan diplomat

KARACHI, Pakistan (MNTV) – – The United States cannot mediate between Iran and Israel as it did between India and Pakistan, says a former Pakistan diplomat with a long service experience in the Middle East.
Talking to MNTV, Javed Hafeez said that a mediator should be neutral. “Obviously the USA is not neutral in the conflict between Iran and Israel. That is why I don’t see the USA playing the role of mediator successfully,” he said.
He said Iran seemed to be disunited in the last three to four years, but Israel’s attacks have united them once again. “Iranian society is very resilient. They get united in such times as they did in the 1980s when attacked by Iraq,” Hafeez added.
Israel has sabotaged the negotiations towards Iran being given relaxations by the United States, he said. “Progress had been made toward reviving the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) in a slightly different form but Israel does not want Iran to be given any relaxation. It wants Iranian nuclear capability to be eliminated completely,” said the former diplomat.
He said that despite its unity, Iran was not capable of fighting a long war. “It has been weakened by economic sanctions and the battering that its allies – Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, – have received in recent times,” said Hafeez.
