Turkmenistan leads regional effort to strengthen joint management of Caspian Sea
Officials from five nations meet for ongoing course on sustainable development, marine ecology, and resource management
ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan (MNTV) — Representatives from the five Caspian littoral states are participating in a training course in the Turkmen capital, focused on deepening regional cooperation over marine sustainability and resource governance.
Hosted in Ashgabat from July 14 to 25, the program—titled Caspian Sea: Sustainable Development and Management—brings together policymakers, scientists, and energy officials for joint discussions on ecological protection, offshore resource planning, and transboundary coordination.
Organized with support from Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry and the Institute of the Caspian Sea, alongside the International Institute of the Oceans, the event features lectures by international experts in marine studies and governance.
Turkmenistan is represented by officials from key ministries and major state-owned corporations, including Turkmengaz, Turkmennebit, and Turkmengeology. Delegations from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Russia are also participating.
The course serves as a platform to strengthen mutual understanding and develop a unified vision for Caspian management—addressing shared concerns such as marine pollution, climate impact, and balanced extraction of natural resources.
Organizers say the initiative is now a regular feature of Caspian engagement, providing the institutional groundwork for long-term cooperation. By fostering scientific exchange and aligning strategic interests, the course plays a key role in regional stability and ecological resilience.
