Türkiye’s Istanbul Opera Festival to open with global performances
16th edition to feature world-class operas, ballets, and concerts across iconic city venues
ISTANBUL, Türkiye (MNTV) — The 16th International Istanbul Opera Festival will run from May 10 to June 3, bringing a rich program of opera, ballet, and classical concerts to major venues including the Atatürk Cultural Center and Süreyya Opera Stage.
Organized by the Turkish State Opera and Ballet, the festival will host both local and international performances, according Daily Sabah.
The festival opens with a Gala Concert conducted by Bulgarian maestro Nayden Todorov, followed by the premiere of Cinderella, a children’s opera based on Rossini’s La Cenerentola, on May 11.
Highlights include a tribute concert to Turkish composer Ahmet Adnan Saygun on May 16, and the world premiere of his opera Gilgamesh on May 17 and 20.
Family-friendly ballet Ballet World will be staged May 18 and June 1, while the All My Hope is in Youth concert on May 19 will spotlight young talents from the “Talent is Everywhere” initiative.
Other events include the baroque concert Sultans of the Opera on May 22 and a performance of Electra by Bulgaria’s Sofia Opera and Ballet on May 29.
Contemporary dance premieres with Delirium, inspired by Tolstoy, on May 30, followed by the Eifman Ballet’s Anna Karenina on May 31 and June 1. The festival concludes with their production of Hamlet on June 2 and 3.
