Türkiye to launch 5G network, eyes global leadership
Ankara advances domestic 5G rollout with October tender, plans to expand digital ecosystem and reduce import dependence
ANKARA, Türkiye (MNTV) — Türkiye is set to roll out its 5G infrastructure nationwide, with officials saying the move will not only strengthen the country’s digital ecosystem but also position it as a global technology hub.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu confirmed preparations are in their final stage, with the 5G tender scheduled for October 16 in Ankara. He said the initiative will prioritize domestic technology production and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.
“We are building not just faster connections but a smarter, more reliable and self-sufficient digital ecosystem,” Uraloglu said, stressing that Türkiye is also working toward future 6G capabilities and has already secured patents in that field.
The minister highlighted the government’s “End-to-End National 5G Project,” which requires up to 60 percent of equipment to be domestically produced, while 30 percent will come from homegrown communications products. This, he noted, will support the country’s current account balance while boosting local industry.
According to Uraloglu, the new network will transform multiple sectors including education, healthcare, manufacturing, smart cities, entertainment, and autonomous vehicles, thanks to its higher speeds, low latency, and massive connection capacity.
“With 5G, we will usher in an era of breakthroughs across industries, empowering innovation while advancing sustainable development goals,” he said.
