Türkiye rebukes Israel over claims of imperial ambition
Accusations of imperial ambition are attempt to deflect attention from Gaza war and ongoing occupations, say Turkish officials
ANKARA, Turkiye (MNTV) – Türkiye has forcefully rejected accusations from Israeli leaders that Ankara harbors imperial ambitions in the Middle East, calling the claims an effort to divert attention from the Zionist state’s own actions in the region and the genocide in Gaza.
The dispute surfaced after recent remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who warned about Türkiye’s growing regional influence and portrayed Ankara as a strategic threat.
Turkish officials responded by saying it was deeply ironic for Israel to accuse others of expansionism while continuing to occupy Palestinian and Syrian territory.
In a statement shared on social media, Burhanettin Duran, head of strategic communications and crisis management at Türkiye’s Presidency, said Israeli leaders were “trying to disguise their territorial ambitions as national security requirements.”
He accused Israel of committing what he described as one of the worst genocides in history and said Israel’s longstanding alarm over Türkiye’s influence was “simply comical.”
Duran said that under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Türkiye has pursued policies aimed at stability, mediation, and peace, contrasting this with what he called the destructive record of the current Israeli leadership.
He said the Netanyahu government had brought “blood and tears” not only to neighboring countries but also to Israeli society itself.
