Türkiye promotes Antalya through new miniseries to boost global tourism appeal
'Antalya Gambit' launched as part of Culture Ministry campaign to attract international audiences through storytelling and screen tourism
ANTALYA, Türkiye (MNTV) — In a fresh effort to elevate Türkiye’s global tourism profile, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has unveiled a new promotional campaign centered around a 10-episode miniseries titled Antalya Gambit, which highlights the scenic and cultural richness of Antalya, one of the country’s top travel destinations.
Launched via the GoTurkey YouTube channel, the series stars popular Turkish actors Meryem Uzerli and Kaan Urgancıoğlu and presents Antalya not only as a premier vacation spot but as the setting for a compelling narrative combining mystery, romance, and history.
Directed by Bertan Başaran, the show follows the journey of a renowned art curator and a secretive architect, drawing viewers into the city’s Mediterranean charm and layered past.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy developed in cooperation with the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA), which aims to harness the power of Turkish television productions to influence global travel behavior.
“Turkish series have become a powerful soft power tool,” said Kaan Kaşif Kavaloğlu, TGA board member and president of the Mediterranean Tourist Hoteliers and Operators Association (AKTOB).
“Many international viewers are inspired to travel to the locations they see on screen. Türkiye ranks just behind the U.S. in TV series exports, and that visibility greatly benefits our tourism economy.”
According to Kavaloğlu, more projects like Antalya Gambit are in the pipeline, and Turkish actors are increasingly being seen as ambassadors of the country’s tourism sector.
He noted their rising popularity abroad, particularly in destinations like Dubai, where Turkish stars are warmly received by international audiences.
Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy also cited Türkiye’s growing prominence in global tourism.
According to the May 2025 World Tourism Barometer released by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), Türkiye became the fourth most visited country in the world in 2024, hosting 56.7 million foreign tourists. The total visitor count reached 62.3 million.
The campaign aims to capitalize on this momentum by tapping into the emotional and cultural power of storytelling. By integrating iconic locations into compelling narratives, Türkiye seeks to transform screen interest into real-world travel and economic growth.
