Trump scolds Netanyahu over Israeli strike in Qatar, WSJ reports
US President Trump reportedly had a tense phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Israel’s airstrike on Hamas
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – US President Donald Trump reportedly had a tense phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Israel’s airstrike on Hamas officials in Qatar, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Senior administration officials told the paper that Trump expressed anger at not being informed in advance of Tuesday’s strike in Doha, which targeted members of Hamas’s political leadership. He reportedly said he learned about the attack in real time from the US military rather than from Israel, and criticized the move as an assault on the territory of a key ally mediating a ceasefire in Gaza.
Netanyahu responded that Israel had a narrow window to carry out the operation and seized the opportunity, the report said. A second conversation between the two leaders was described as cordial, with Trump asking if the attack had succeeded; Netanyahu reportedly could not confirm.
Hamas later said its senior leaders survived, though five members of the group and a Qatari security officer were killed.
While Trump has been a strong supporter of Israel, the paper noted growing frustration inside the White House over Netanyahu’s actions, which officials say complicate Washington’s efforts to end the Gaza war.
Israel’s military described the raid as a “precise strike targeting the senior leadership” of Hamas. Qatar condemned it as a “cowardly act” and a breach of international law, warning Israel against further “reckless behavior.”
Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said regional partners were discussing a collective response to the attack, adding that consultations with Arab and Islamic states were underway.
