Trump says Gaza deal ‘very close’ as talks with Hamas advance
US President Donald Trump said Monday that Hamas has been “agreeing to things that are very important” as negotiations continue
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — US President Donald Trump said Monday that Hamas has been “agreeing to things that are very important” as negotiations continue on his proposed 20-point Gaza ceasefire plan, which he said could lead to “a lasting deal.”
Speaking at the Oval Office, Trump expressed optimism about progress, saying there was “a really good chance of making a deal.” He added, “If certain things aren’t met, we’re not going to do it, but I think Hamas has been agreeing to very important points.”
Unveiled on Sept. 29, Trump’s plan reportedly includes a full ceasefire, the release of Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, the disarmament of Hamas, and the reconstruction of Gaza. Hamas has agreed to the plan “in principle.”
Trump said the proposal has drawn broad international support. “I can’t think of any country that’s been negative about this,” he told reporters. “Everyone wants it to happen — including, I think, Hamas. And when they want it to happen, it’s going to happen.”
In a later interview with Newsmax, Trump reiterated his confidence that a breakthrough was imminent.
“I think we’re very, very close to having a deal,” he said, describing it as “a very specific deal” that could bring peace not only to Gaza but to the wider Middle East.
Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, launched in October 2023, has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians — mostly women and children — and displaced millions.
The bombardment has devastated infrastructure and pushed the enclave to famine and disease.
