Trump reiterates claims of mediating India-Pakistan tensions
U.S. President Donald Trump highlights his role in addressing recent hostilities between India and Pakistan
DOHA (MNTV) – U.S. President Donald Trump, while addressing U.S. military personnel at al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Thursday, repeated his claim of having played a significant role in easing tensions between India and Pakistan.
“And by the way, I don’t want to say I did, but I sure as hell helped settle the problem between Pakistan and India last week, which was getting more and more hostile,” Trump said. He added, “And all of a sudden, you’ll start seeing missiles of a different type. And we got it settled. I hope… two days later [I won’t] find out that it’s not settled, but I think it is.”
Trump also emphasized the importance of trade over conflict, stating, “Let’s do trade instead of do war. Pakistan was very happy with that, and India was very happy with that. I think they’re on the way… they’ve been fighting for about 1,000 years.”
On Saturday, Trump announced that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire” following what he described as a “long night of talks mediated by the United States.”
In a subsequent post on Truth Social, he expressed readiness to assist both nations in finding a “solution” for Kashmir, crediting U.S. diplomacy for enabling the ceasefire.
Adding to the discussion, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared an anecdote from Doha, where a Kashmiri waiter expressed gratitude to Trump for facilitating the resolution.
“He told me he is from Kashmir… and he has been unable to return home in recent weeks. But he was just notified that he’s now able to return, thanks to the ceasefire mediated by President Trump,” she tweeted.
India, however, has maintained its longstanding position that issues concerning Kashmir are bilateral matters with Pakistan, leaving no room for third-party mediation.
Pakistan welcomed President Trump’s offer to resolve Kashmir dispute, stating that the issue should be resolved according to the wishes of the people of Kashmiri people.
