Trump hosts Qatar premier after Israeli strike on Doha as OIC plans emergency summit
US President Donald Trump hosted Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani for a private dinner
NEW YORK / DOHA (MNTV) — US President Donald Trump hosted Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani for a private dinner in New York on Friday, days after an Israeli air raid on Doha killed five Hamas officials and a Qatari security officer.
“Great dinner with POTUS. Just ended,” Qatar’s deputy chief of mission in Washington, Hamah Al-Muftah, wrote on X.
The White House confirmed the meeting but released no details. Earlier, Sheikh Mohammed met Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Tuesday’s strike, which Israel said targeted Hamas leaders discussing a US-backed ceasefire proposal, has drawn widespread condemnation across the Middle East and beyond.
Trump criticised Israel for what he called a “unilateral action” that undermined peace efforts.
Qatar, a key mediator in Gaza negotiations, labelled the attack “state terrorism” and vowed to defend its sovereignty.
The Gaza genocide, now in its twelfth month, has claimed more than 64,000 Palestinian lives, according to local authorities.
The raid on Doha came as mediators worked to finalise a deal on a ceasefire and prisoner exchange.
In response, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation announced an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Qatar on Monday, preceded by a ministerial meeting on Sunday to agree on a collective reaction.
“This summit reaffirms Arab and Islamic solidarity with the State of Qatar,” the OIC said, calling the strike a “blatant violation” of international law and a threat to regional stability.
Hamas confirmed its delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayya, survived the attack but said several close associates were killed.
The Israeli assault on a diplomatic partner has added strain to regional diplomacy, coming amid intense UN efforts to revive a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.
