Trump hints at Middle East visit amid Gaza truce talks
US President says negotiations in Egypt making “very good progress” as ceasefire, hostage release deal nears completion
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — US President Donald Trump said he may travel to the Middle East later this week as negotiators edge closer to finalizing a deal to end the war in Gaza and secure the release of hostages.
Speaking at a White House roundtable, Trump said discussions were “going very well,” praising the efforts of American negotiators and their counterparts. “We have a great team over there, great negotiators — and unfortunately, great negotiators on the other side too,” he remarked.
The president said he had spoken with his diplomatic team shortly before the event and hinted at a potential visit “toward the end of the week, maybe Sunday,” but did not disclose which country he might visit. “It’s something that has a good chance of happening,” Trump added.
Negotiations are currently taking place in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, where mediators are working to finalize terms for a possible ceasefire in Gaza and the exchange of hostages held by Palestinian factions.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that a presidential visit could occur “if a deal is reached,” describing the talks as productive but cautioning that “there’s still some work to be done.” He noted, “Good progress has been made today; events are moving in a good direction.”
A senior White House official said no final decision has been made regarding Trump’s travel plans, emphasizing that “nothing is confirmed yet, but anything is possible depending on developments in Sharm el-Sheikh.”
