Tajikistan to host national Football Week with children’s tournaments
Events across the country aim to promote youth participation, healthy lifestyles, and community engagement through football from May 19 to 25.
DUSHANBE, Tajikistan (MNTV) — Tajikistan will host a week-long nationwide celebration of football from May 19 to 25, in line with World Football Day. The initiative, known as “Football Week,” will feature tournaments, youth festivals, and community events across the country to promote the sport’s social and developmental impact.
According to independent outlet Avesta, the event is being coordinated by the Football Federation of Tajikistan and aims to boost football’s popularity among children and young people while also expanding local sports infrastructure.
Over 25 children’s football festivals are scheduled in different regions, with players from national teams expected to conduct masterclasses. Youth tournaments will run in tandem with matches for adults, including inter-organizational competitions involving companies, institutions, and government offices.
The highlights of the week include a high-profile exhibition match in Dushanbe between football legends from Tajikistan and Russia, and the 2025 Tajik Super Cup final between reigning national champions FC Istiklol and Tajikistan Cup winners Regar-TadAZ. That match will take place at the Central Stadium in Hissar.
The program also features the final matches of the Tajik Futsal Super League, with Soro Company facing off against Istiqlol, and the launch of the new season of the Women’s Football League.
Organizers are placing a strong emphasis on the broader role of sport in public life. “Football Week will be not only a sports festival, but also an important milestone in strengthening the role of football in public life,” the Football Federation stated, encouraging fans, coaches, and community members to participate.
The initiative underscores Tajikistan’s ongoing effort to use football as a tool for youth engagement, health promotion, and national unity.
