Snow in Toronto on Boxing Day, Plus What is Open and What is Closed on December 25 & 26.
In a significant shift from its previous forecast, which indicated that parts of southwestern Ontario were expected to see “minimal” ice accretion, Environment Canada has issued an early snow warning for Boxing Day, Friday, December 26.
Current forecasts predict that a winter storm will hit southern Ontario, including Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), later this week. Residents can expect 10-15 cm of snow, along with potential rain and snow pellets in some areas. There may also be icy surfaces, broken tree branches, and utility outages.
Depending on the location, residents can expect mainly freezing rain, snow, or a mix of both. In southwestern Ontario, including the Hamilton and Niagara areas, mostly freezing rain is expected to begin on Friday morning and continue into the evening. Further north, from the Bruce Peninsula southeast to the GTA, mainly snow is now forecast to start Friday afternoon and continue late into the evening.
