Saudi rainfed agriculture surges over 1,100 pc
Saudi Reef program boosts smallholder farming, food security, and sustainable rural development nationwide
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) – Saudi Arabia’s Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program, known as Saudi Reef, has reported exceptional growth in its rainfed crops sector, recording an increase of more than 1,100 percent and benefiting over 13,300 participants across the country.
Program spokesman Majed Al-Buraikan highlighted rainfed agriculture as a major success of Saudi Reef, noting its role in boosting production efficiency and supporting food security and self-reliance.
He added that it promotes sustainable farming in water-scarce regions while improving income and living standards for smallholder farmers, in line with Saudi Vision 2030 goals.
Al-Buraikan outlined the program’s key objectives, including expanding the agricultural production base and ensuring food independence across various crop categories.
He also emphasized improving smallholder farmers’ prosperity and job opportunities to foster social cohesion while protecting environmental and natural resources in rural Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Reef provides support and technical assistance in eight agricultural sectors, including honey production, fruit and coffee cultivation, rose farming, rainfed crops, livestock raising, artisanal fishing, and value-added agricultural products.
