Eastern Province initiative aims to boost economy and attract investors with international pavilions and entertainment facilities
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) – Saudi Arabia inaugurated its new Global City tourism project in Dammam on Monday, aiming to diversify the economy and enhance the region’s cultural, entertainment, and tourism offerings.
Eastern Province Governor Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz officially launched the project, which was attended by Secretary Fahad Al-Jubair, government officials, and international investors, including representatives from Thailand.
During the ceremony, Prince Saud toured the facilities and highlighted the project’s potential to attract local, regional, and global investment.
Spanning over 650,000 square meters, the first phase covers roughly 250,000 square meters and includes 16 international pavilions representing nations from the Gulf, Asia, Europe, and Africa.
The project features a 200,000-square-meter artificial lake with a floating restaurant, a 7,000-seat open-air theater expandable to 10,000, and a 15,000-square-meter amusement park with restaurants, cafes, markets, and pedestrian areas.
The Global City’s first phase focuses on entertainment and festivals, including themed districts such as Chinatown and Indian Gully, a central food street, carnival rides, arcade games, live performances, a petting zoo, and a Garden of Lights.
The second phase will expand the site with additional pavilions, stunt zones, restaurants, and a water park with slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers suitable for all ages. The third phase will introduce a modern residential neighborhood to support the project’s long-term sustainability.
Upon completion, Global City is expected to attract around 25,000 visitors daily, positioning Dammam as a major hub for tourism and entertainment in Saudi Arabia.
