Saudi Arabia launches 16 major relief projects in Syria
Initiatives cover health, education, food security, and community empowerment under KSrelief program
DAMASCUS, Syria (MNTV) — Saudi Arabia announced the launch of 16 large-scale humanitarian projects in Syria on Sunday, led by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) under the supervision of its chief, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah.
According to Arab News, the initiatives aim to support Syrians across critical sectors including healthcare, food security, education, and community development.
Speaking at the ceremony in Damascus, Al-Rabeeah described the occasion as a “historic day,” emphasizing Saudi Arabia’s longstanding commitment to the Syrian people before, during, and after the conflict.
“We are supporting them now in this period of recovery, with projects that empower communities, women, children, and youth, helping them move from dependence on relief toward stability and development,” he said.
One of the cornerstone programs unveiled is the Lifesaving Medical Equipment initiative, which will equip 17 central hospitals with advanced CT scanners, intensive care units, and dialysis machines.
A total of 454 new dialysis units are being distributed nationwide, alongside the deployment of 1,220 Saudi medical specialists covering more than 45 disciplines such as cochlear implants, neurosurgery, pediatric oncology, and burn treatment.
The humanitarian package also includes the Food Security and Agricultural Recovery Program, designed to rehabilitate 33 state bakeries across eight provinces and provide farmers with seeds, equipment, and training under the Seven Grains Agricultural Support scheme.
In the education sector, KSrelief will restore 34 schools in three governorates, integrating solar-powered systems and modern classrooms to aid post-conflict recovery. Six new water and sanitation projects are also set to benefit more than 300,000 people.
Children and orphans are central to the aid plan. Through the Care and Empowerment Program, 1,000 orphans will receive monthly sponsorship, while the Basma Hope Program will ensure access to education, recreation, and essential support.
In addition, 400 women caregivers will undergo tailoring training to enhance household income and economic empowerment.
Emergency relief measures announced include the delivery of ambulances, heavy machinery for debris clearance, temporary shelter kits, and food baskets for vulnerable communities.
Raed Al-Saleh, Syria’s minister of disaster management and emergency response, praised the Saudi initiative, calling it “a key pillar in addressing the humanitarian crisis” and stressing its importance for Syria’s future resilience.
Al-Rabeeah underlined that the projects reflect not only humanitarian commitment but also the strong bilateral ties between Saudi Arabia and Syria. “This is another day of support, rooted in the deep political, economic, and humanitarian bonds between the two nations,” he said.
