Russia accuses West of ignoring UN resolutions on Palestinian statehood
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused Western countries of ignoring UN resolutions calling for the creation of a Palestinian state
NEW YORK, United States (MNTV) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused Western countries of ignoring UN Security Council resolutions calling for the creation of a Palestinian state, saying the principle of the UN Charter has been “trampled.”
Speaking at a roundtable with foreign ambassadors in Moscow, Lavrov cited Article 25 of the UN Charter, which obliges member states to comply with Security Council decisions. “The West has once again ignored it, just as it ignores many other resolutions, including the one on the need to establish a Palestinian state,” he said.
Lavrov also dismissed Ukraine’s accusations that Russia targets civilians. “The Russian army never attacks civilian targets or civilian populations,” he claimed, accusing Kyiv and its allies of spreading misinformation.
He criticized UN Secretary-General António Guterres for condemning alleged Russian strikes on civilian areas, saying the UN Secretariat was lending credibility to “fakes” promoted by Ukraine and its partners. Lavrov added that Moscow planned to present video material to diplomats to counter the allegations.
The UN has not immediately responded to Lavrov’s comments.
Turning to the war in Ukraine, Lavrov alleged that EU and NATO leaders are trying to derail peace efforts. He said security guarantees for Kyiv must align with Western commitments under the UN Charter and agreements adopted at OSCE meetings in Istanbul (1999) and Astana (2010).
