Rising mosque attacks in Europe as Islamophobia surges online
ANKARA, Türkiye (MNTV) – Islamophobia is on the rise globally, with a sharp increase in mosque attacks across Europe and a troubling surge in online anti-Muslim rhetoric.
According to recent reports, 86% of anti-Muslim content on the social media platform X originates from the United States, the United Kingdom, and India.
The issue has reached alarming levels, with incidents of Quran desecration in Western Europe jumping from 15 in 2022 to an astonishing 507 in 2023, with Denmark witnessing a majority of these acts. Experts warn that Islamophobia is not just a social issue but a deeply rooted political problem.
“Recognizing and naming the problem at top diplomatic forums is crucial to pressuring governments to acknowledge and address it,” said a researcher speaking to TRT World.
However, many Western governments remain reluctant to even recognize the issue.
Türkiye has been vocal in raising awareness of Islamophobia on international platforms, emphasizing the need for global coalitions.
Countries like Pakistan and Malaysia have joined forces in the diplomatic battle against anti-Muslim discrimination.
Farid Hafez, a senior researcher at Georgetown University’s The Bridge Initiative, stresses that economic and political pressure must be applied to nations such as France, where Islamophobia has become institutionalized.
The fight against Islamophobia remains a long and difficult struggle, but Muslim nations refuse to back down in defending their faith and identity.
