Doha and Cotonou eye direct air connectivity, joint museum initiatives, and expanded infrastructure cooperation as President Talon meets Amir Sheikh Tamim during key working visit
DOHA, Qatar (MNTV) — Qatar and the Republic of Benin agreed to bolster bilateral cooperation across aviation, culture, and sustainable development during President Patrice Talon’s working visit to Doha.
The visit served as a milestone in strengthening the longstanding relations between the two countries, with leaders aligning on shared goals of peace, stability, and inclusive growth.
Discussions highlighted a roadmap for practical cooperation, especially in areas of mutual interest including transportation, infrastructure, and cultural exchange, according to Qatar Tribune.
Central to the talks was a shared interest in expanding aviation connectivity. Both sides expressed intent to explore collaboration between Qatar Airways and Benin’s national carrier, Amazon Airlines, including the potential launch of a direct route linking Doha and Cotonou.
Officials emphasized that improved air links could boost Benin’s appeal to investors, enhance trade and freight transport, and facilitate tourism and cultural exchange.
In the cultural domain, the two nations agreed to deepen institutional collaboration, including joint exhibitions and partnerships between museums and cultural bodies. The initiative aims to promote cultural diplomacy and foster greater people-to-people ties.
Qatar also reaffirmed its commitment to Africa’s development, expressing readiness to support key sectors in Benin such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure, aligned with its global development agenda and Benin’s national priorities.
President Talon welcomed Qatar’s expanding footprint in Africa and praised its efforts in promoting regional peace and cooperation. Qatar, in turn, recognized Benin’s strides in economic and institutional reform since 2016.
