Printing of ballots in Philippines‘ Muslim region starts
Commission on Elections to conduct mock polls in Tawi-Tawi, Lanao del Sur on July 25
MANILA, the Philippines (MNTV) – – As part of its preparations for the parliamentary elections in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, scheduled in October, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has started printing ballots for the mock polls.
“We need those ballots for the July 25 mock elections in Tawi-Tawi and Lanao del Sur,” Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said in an interview on the sidelines of the signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the poll body, the National Printing Office (NPO) and the MIRU-Integrated Computer Systems and Centerpoint Solutions Technologies, Inc. (ICS-CPSTI).
Garcia said they intend to start the printing of the 2.3 million official ballots next month. “After printing the ballots, it should be ready around the second week to the third week of August because there is verification, packing, and shipping of the ballots.
We want the ballots to arrive before the end of September so they can be distributed immediately to the various municipalities of the Bangsamoro,” he said.
“We don’t want to rush the verification process. If the ballot needs to be verified two or three times, that’s what you do. That ballot will undergo a pre-election logic and accuracy test where it will be tested on the machines that will be used on election day,” Garcia said.
