Philippines military deploys more troops for poll security in Muslim region
Additional soldiers in Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, and Special Geographic Area of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
MANILA, The Philippines (MNTV) – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has deployed additional troops to render election-related tasks in areas in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The additional troops composed of personnel from the 48th Infantry Battalion and Armor Division’s 1st Armor Company that arrived at the Joint Task Force (JTF)-Central headquarters on April 15 and April 16, respectively, reports The Sun Star.
Major General Donald Gumiran, 6th Infantry Division (6ID) and JTF-Central commander, said the additional soldiers will be assigned in the towns of Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, and Special Geographic Area (SGA) of BARMM.
“They will be our additional forces for security-related operations and missions in this election period. The JTF-Central and 6ID will continue to assess the need of specific areas for additional troops,” Gumiran said in a statement.
The deployment of additional Army troops is the second batch of reinforcements that arrived in the area of operations of JTF-Central and 6ID for election security duty.
In March, two companies from the Marine Battalion Landing Team-6 were sent to JTF-Central area of operations for election duties and other security related mandates.
