Pakistan holds nationwide events marking military campaign against India
Government and army commemorate completion of recent military campaign with ceremonies, prayers, and tributes to fallen soldiers
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (MNTV) — Pakistan on Friday held nationwide ceremonies to mark the conclusion of a military operation it described as a successful response to recent tensions with India.
The government designated the day as “Youm-e-Tashakur” or Day of Gratitude, to honor the armed forces and civilians involved in what officials called Operation Bunyan um-Marsoos—a military campaign they say was launched in response to Indian military actions against the country.
According to local media, the day began with Quran recitations and special prayers across mosques in Pakistan, with calls for national unity and prayers for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, a disputed region between the two countries.
A 31-gun salute was conducted in Islamabad, while 21-gun salutes were fired in provincial capitals and territories including Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Ceremonies included flag-raising, chants of national slogans, and change-of-guard rituals at key national sites.
Memorials honoring fallen soldiers were the focus of floral tributes laid by officials and military personnel.
Visits were also made to the families of those killed in past operations, recognizing their sacrifices.
In Lahore, municipal workers and civil society groups held rallies in support of the military. Footage shared by local broadcasters showed people waving flags and chanting slogans in celebration of the armed forces.
The main ceremony is scheduled for Friday evening at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expected to lead the event.
Top military officials, including the Chief of Army Staff and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, are also set to attend.
In official statements, both Prime Minister Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari praised the armed forces for their performance and described the operation’s success as a national achievement shared by Pakistan’s military and people.
