Over 1,500 scholars complete intensive Sahih al-Bukhari course in Türkiye
Global Islamic program highlights importance of preserving hadith tradition and transmitting it to future generations
ISTANBUL, Türkiye (MNTV) — More than 1,500 participants from around the world have successfully completed a 13-day educational program in Türkiye’s Istanbul dedicated to the study of Sahih al-Bukhari, one of the most revered collections of hadith in Islamic tradition.
The program, which concluded Monday, brought together renowned scholars, religious leaders, and students to explore the sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad as compiled by the 9th-century scholar Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari.
Participants received certificates following a ceremonial recitation of the final page of the text by Syrian scholar Muhammad Mujir al-Khatib, according to Anadolu Agency.
Organized by the Ismailaga Foundation, the event emphasized the importance of not only reading but also practicing and transmitting hadith knowledge across generations.
Speakers stressed the centrality of Sahih al-Bukhari—considered by scholars to be the most authentic Islamic text after the Qur’an—in maintaining continuity in Islamic jurisprudence and education.
Notable guests included Grand Mufti of Syria Sheikh Osama al-Rifai, Saudi scholar Muhammad Tahir Nur Wali, Islamic Institute of Al-Fath scholars Yahya al-Ghawsani and Ayman Shabani, Somali scholar Mahmoud Abdulbari, and Muhammad Emin Kılıç, Director of Türkiye’s Haseki Center for Advanced Religious Studies.
The certification committee featured a diverse panel of hadith experts, including Latifurrahman al-Bahraichi (India), Muhammad Idris al-Sindi (Pakistan), Muhammad Naim Araksusi (Syria), Dursun Ali Yilmaz (Türkiye), Muhammad al-Amin Bouselce (Algeria), and Jasim Muhammad Aziz Kirkuki (Iraq).
The Secretary General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars praised the organizers and concluded with prayers for Gaza, while Syria’s Minister of Religious Endowments, Muhammad Abu al-Khayr Shukri, called on the youth to go beyond memorization and develop a deep understanding of the hadith sciences.
Compiled in the 9th century by Imam al-Bukhari, Sahih al-Bukhari is a cornerstone of Islamic knowledge.
Its rigorous methodology in authenticating the sayings and actions of the Prophet has earned it a distinguished place in religious scholarship and among practicing Muslims worldwide.
