Over 1,000 civilians have fled Sudan’s El-Fasher city amid escalating battles between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)
KHARTOUM, Sudan (MNTV) – Over 1,000 civilians have fled Sudan’s El-Fasher city amid escalating battles between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to a local civil society group.
The Displaced Persons Coordination said 1,117 people from 360 families reached Tawila on Sunday, bringing the total number of displaced families there since Oct. 18 to 831 — roughly 3,000 people.
“These families urgently need water, food, shelter, and healthcare,” said Adam Regal, spokesperson for the General Coordination for Refugees and Displaced Persons, calling for immediate UN intervention.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that more than 26,000 people fled El-Fasher within 48 hours between Oct. 26 and 27.
It warned that the situation remains “volatile and highly tense,” with extreme insecurity along the roads.
El-Fasher, the humanitarian hub for all five Darfur states, has been under RSF siege since May.
The paramilitary force launched a multi-front assault to capture the city, trapping an estimated 260,000 civilians, including 130,000 children facing acute food shortages, according to UN agencies.
Fighting between the army and RSF has raged since April 2023, killing thousands and displacing millions across Sudan.
