Oman launches national hackathon to boost digital governance
Event in Salalah brings together youth teams to develop transparency-focused solutions for investment management
SALALAH, Oman (MNTV) — Oman has launched the “Govern It Smartly” Hackathon, a 48-hour competition aimed at fostering youth-led innovation to strengthen governance, transparency, and accountability in managing investments across the country’s governorates.
The initiative, organized by the State Financial and Administrative Audit Authority in cooperation with Dhofar Municipality, is being held at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Recreation in Salalah.
It brings together multidisciplinary youth teams with expertise in technology, management, and finance to design practical digital solutions that support decentralization and sustainable development.
The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of Zahra Mohammed Redha Al Lawati, deputy chairman for Audit of Authorities, Investments and Companies, and attended by Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani, chairman of Dhofar Municipality.
Speaking at the event, Al Lawati emphasized the importance of empowering young innovators to create tools that reinforce efficiency, accountability, and transparency in public investment governance.
Organizers noted that the hackathon aligns with Royal Decree No. 36/2022 on the System of Governorates as well as the priorities of Oman Vision 2040.
Winning projects are expected to be developed into sustainable solutions that enhance oversight and promote good governance at the local level, while also bolstering Oman’s reputation for integrity in administration.
Participants described the program as an opportunity to exchange knowledge, strengthen entrepreneurial and digital transformation skills, and contribute to raising the quality of investment management across governorates.
The event is being supported by a panel of expert mentors and evaluators. Mentors are guiding participants in refining their concepts into implementable models, while evaluators will apply transparent criteria to select projects with the strongest potential impact.
