Nigerian philanthropist brings water relief amid worsening crisis
Community leader Shamsudeen Hannafi Kofar Kade launches private initiative to deliver water to parched neighborhoods
SOKOTO, Nigeria (MNTV) — Amid a worsening water shortage in Nigeria’s Sokoto, local philanthropist and community leader Hon. Shamsudeen Hannafi Kofar Kade has launched an emergency water distribution campaign to support vulnerable residents across several hard-hit neighborhoods.
Hon. Shamsudeen personally oversees the delivery of large-capacity water tanks to areas suffering from prolonged disruptions in municipal water supply.
The goal, he said, was to deploy at least 20 tanks by the end of the day to meet urgent needs.
“This is not the first time Hon. Shamsudeen has come to our aid,” said Malam Ibrahim, a resident of Garkar Bala. “He acts not just as a leader, but as a brother in faith who lives by the Islamic principles of mercy and responsibility.”
Communities benefiting from the initiative include Kofar Kade, Salihu Anka Primary School, Sagin Lemo, Garkar Bala Gari Mai Fata, and parts of Gandu.
These areas have faced weeks-long dry spells due to a combination of outdated water infrastructure, erratic electricity that hampers pumping operations, and a growing population that has overwhelmed local supply systems.
The Sokoto water crisis has intensified in recent months, leaving families dependent on water vendors or forced to walk long distances for clean water.
While government responses have been limited, Hon. Shamsudeen’s timely action has filled a critical gap.
“Water is a basic necessity,” Hon. Shamsudeen said during a media briefing. “As a Muslim, I believe we are accountable for how we respond to the suffering of our neighbors.
Until lasting solutions are in place, I will continue to do whatever I can to support our people.”
His initiative has drawn widespread praise from residents and local authorities, who urged other well-resourced individuals and organizations to follow his example.
As temperatures climb and demand for water intensifies, Hon. Shamsudeen’s campaign has emerged as a model of grassroots humanitarian action—driven by compassion, faith, and an enduring commitment to the well-being of the community.
